Blog Banner:

Little bit random but I liked it. It also BROKE MY HAND. I had the idea to go with the words 'It's been a long time since before I've been touched, now I'm getting touched all the time. And it's only a matter of whom, and it's only a matter of when: An addiction to hands and feet.' from Regina Spektor's 'Dance anthem of the 80's' but then I thought i'd use it for this instead. Plus I could probably draw something more relevent to the words.

Pick Me Apart:

Er, yeah. I will post something actually new soon.

New Scanner:

I walked into a charity shop today and found an A4 scanner for £10. How brilliant. So I'm going to replace those images from my newer sketchbook with better scans, and also see if I can find some other old stuff.

Unfinished Pieces From My Current Sketchbook:

Hornbill Design:

Bits and Bobs From My Last Sketchbook:

You're Beautiful:

A work in progress.

Game Idea:

This is a concept for a game. Kingdoms reside on these creatures, but they are unaware of the ‘parasites’ living on them. The ruler of the Kingdom is whoever can control them. Most are blind due to the fact that their eyes are made of gems, differing from creature to creature. The residence mine through the back of their skulls and harvest the wealth which is then used as the currency of the land. Eventually the creatures go blind, which simply makes them easier to control. The player controls the new ruler thereby being able to control the smaller creatures and the larger in game play. The start of the plot would be one of the larger creatures realizing that it is being used as, essentially, a slave destroys the entire civilization residing on it and goes on a rampage. The player would be able to design their own towns and villages and would have to keep them alive, as well as controlling both characters, battling larger monsters and choosing their own path. It’s just a concept for my project in two years, still at the very basics.

Character Design:

For character design we were asked to create a creature that could live in Cyprus. I originally started out with the idea of a big predator, like a large cat that would live in the more rocky areas, like a mountain lion or something. Apparently the Cyclops came from Cyprus which would make sense, so I thought whatever I did I'd give it one eye. But then if a large predator only had one eye it would need a way to see its surroundings, so I thought of giving it quite a long neck, but after actually sketching this it really didn't work. So I completely changed to a large lizard. So this lizard would be around 3 - 5 feet long, depending on sex, place in hierarchy etc. and would still live in the more rocky regions. The back legs are more like a goats, and it would move more like one too, being able to move into a fast trot or run. Having strong back legs makes it easier for the creature to leap and climb the terrain as well. The tusks that grow from under their jaws are found on males and are used to dig up roots and small bugs and to create nests. They live in small family groups mainly consisting of females. They are also used as weapons against other males and other threats. Their helmets grow after they hatch, and grow out from the front of their jaw and over the back of their heads to protect the soft skin over their skulls. Few young survive because damage can be caused to their skulls very easily. If a lizards helmet is cracked or broken off then they will not survive long, as they are unable to take the heat, and if something were to fall on their heads they would not survive. Therefore, if one were to have their helmet cracked they are rejected by the rest of the group. They also have a pattern on these helmets that looks like on large eye so when viewed from above or from straight on they do resemble a Cyclops. This helps to ward off aerial predators. Their chests are concaved and, very much like a kangaroo would, their children climb up the mothers’ bodies and live inside their mothers chests until their helmets are fully formed. I'm not sure what I was going for with the tail, but it would be pretty impractical, as it could get caught on rocks. Other ideas would include fur tails, or the one I like best would be a large fanned tail.

Truth Be Told:

This was an illustration I did for a magazine called 'Whip'. Unfortunately it wasn't used in the end, but they did use a bit of my photography so that was alright in the end. The words are from Scout Niblett's 'Miss In Love With Her Own Fate'. I've got another idea for something similar to this which I should get done soon.

Art Dump:

These are all about a year old or more, but I think there's some good images in there. I especially like the portrait of my sister and the guy coming out of the mouth. Originally he was a spider, but I won't go into that.

Animal Antics:

I had a phase where all I drew was strange looking animals with unrealated captions, so here are the ones that I completed.

First Year Character Design:

These next pieces were from a character design project at uni. We had to chose a fairy tale and redesign the characters. I chose Little Red Riding Hood, so here are my exampes of Little Red Riding Hood as a drug addict and The Big Bad Wolf as a drug lord.

Old Things:

So first off I wanted to put up 2 drawings that are about 2 years old, but I still really like them both. One is a character that I created in 2007, his name is Horatio and he is a fox. I get that he doesn't look like one.

The second is an illustration for an imaginary friend project for my foundation course. I don't really know how to explain it, I really like the left side of it, but I don't really understand why I drew the rabbit.

First Post:

I have been nagged by many into creating a blog and finally have done it. Voila!
Okay, so this is going to be a blog of character and game design work from university combined with my own personal illustrations.

I would appreciate inpute from anyone whenever they have the time, especially on future uni work.

I'm going to start putting stuff up now!
